The McLeansboro City Council met Tuesday night for its regular monthly meeting. Sheffel Boyle CPA’s, the firm currently auditing the city’s financials, was the only company to submit a bid for future audits. The board will review the proposal and discuss it further at next month’s meeting.
The council held a first reading of an ordinance to amend Chapter 21 of the city’s Class E-2 liquor license, which would increase the number of available E-2 licenses from one to five. The board will consider the proposed amendment and vote on it at their next meeting. Discussion was held regarding the half-acre property across from the Fire Department. A proposal was presented to construct a building on the property for the sale of beer, wine, and spirits, with a focus on locally crafted products. The board decided to proceed with a land survey and appraisal before making any decisions about the proposal.
Regarding the city pool, the council agreed to limit public swimming to Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m. each day, in an effort to make operations more cost-effective. Pool parties may still be scheduled at any time. The board also discussed the Animal Control Agreement with the county, which provides that the county supplies the vehicle while the city pays for gas, maintenance, and animal food. Mayor Chad May has been in communication with the county regarding the agreement, but no action was taken.
The Consent Agenda was approved, including an explanation of a prior loan to the FFI Board for $1,416.67 as part of a matching grant for fire hoses. The city fronted the grant money and was reimbursed. The agenda also included a resolution authorizing the Illinois Codification Service to update the McLeansboro City Code book at a cost of $2,500, with the updated code to be posted on the city’s website.
The board entered Executive Session to discuss employment of specific individuals. Following the session, the city will move forward with posting a position in the electric department.
