The Feeding Kids of Wayne County lunch program is preparing for its third consecutive summer, with volunteers and supporters already expressing excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to serve local children and families.
According to program organizer, Mindy Otey, the past two summers have seen remarkable community involvement, with more than 300 volunteers each year helping to provide a total of 11,365 lunches to children in need. Additionally, the program has distributed 991 family supplement sacks, offering extra support to households across Wayne County.
Organizers credit the program’s success to the dedication of volunteers, generous donations from community members, and the steadfast support of local organizations, businesses, and churches. “We are beyond grateful for the way our community has come together,” the team shared in a recent message to supporters.
As the 2026 season approaches, Feeding Kids of Wayne County is asking area churches, businesses, and organizations to keep the program, its volunteers, and the families it serves in their prayers. Leaders are encouraging everyone involved to maintain a spirit of service, love, and humility, and to strive to be “a small light” to those in need.
The program also reminds volunteer groups to communicate if they are ever short-handed during their assigned days. Organizers aim to ensure a smooth and supported experience for all, recommending teams have 6–8 volunteers each day and offering assistance as needed.
