The Fairfield Memorial Hospital Foundation recently funded the installation of a new aquarium on the Skilled Care Unit, made possible through memorial contributions from the family of Robert Simpson.
The idea for the aquarium began when the Simpson family reached out to the Foundation, expressing interest in supporting a special project in Robert’s memory. After thoughtful consideration and research, the Foundation Board approved the project and partnered with Serenity Aquarium Services, a professional company that will install and maintain the aquarium on an ongoing basis.
The aquarium has been placed on the Skilled Care Unit, where residents, families, and staff can enjoy the calming and therapeutic benefits it provides. Studies have shown that aquariums can help reduce stress and anxiety while promoting relaxation and a sense of well-being — benefits that are especially meaningful in a long-term care setting.
“The Foundation is grateful to the Simpson family for their generosity and for choosing a project that will bring comfort and enjoyment to our residents every day,” said Susan Suddarth MBA, RHIT, HIM Director and Foundation Director. “This aquarium serves as a lasting tribute to Robert Simpson and reflects the family’s desire to give back in a meaningful way.”
The Foundation Board will continue to coordinate with Serenity Aquarium Services to ensure the aquarium remains a welcoming and well-maintained feature on the Skilled Care floor.
Community members who would like to assist with the ongoing care of the aquarium are invited to donate to the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Foundation and designate their gift to “Special Project – Aquarium.” Contributions will help support maintenance and enhancements to ensure the aquarium continues to be enjoyed for years to come.
