The National Weather Service reports that Southern Illinois will experience a chilly start to the week, with cold temperatures expected today (Monday). However, residents can look forward to a significant warming trend beginning Tuesday.

On Tuesday, dry conditions combined with breezy winds may lead to an elevated fire risk throughout the region. Authorities urge residents to use caution with outdoor burning and fire-related activities.

Temperatures are forecast to climb above normal from Wednesday through Saturday, providing a stretch of unseasonably warm weather. Light rain is expected to develop Wednesday night and continue into Thursday, offering some relief to the dry conditions.

The above-average temperatures are predicted to last through Saturday, but a shift to cooler conditions is possible by late in the weekend. Residents are encouraged to stay updated on the latest forecasts and exercise fire safety precautions during the period of increased risk.
