42-year-old Jason Hammock appeared in Wayne County Circuit Court last Tuesday seeking to have his sentence or confinement changed, altered, or reduced under the rules of Habeas Corpus. Hammock is currently serving a life sentence stemming from a 2018 arrest and subsequent conviction on one count of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Victim under the age of 13, a Class X Felony in Illinois.
Hammock was convicted by a jury, and a life sentence was handed down as a result. While the jury found him guilty on one count, three other counts — including another count of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault and two Class 4 Felony charges of Criminal Sexual Abuse/Force — were dismissed. Court records show Hammock has paid a fine totaling $1,614.
During last week’s proceedings, Hammock’s petition cited Illinois law (735 ILCS 5/2-1401), but Judge Denton Aud denied the request. Hammock was returned to the Pinckneyville Correctional Center after the ruling.
