They send Shota Imanaga to the mound against the Padres this afternoon. In other club news, the Cubs signed outfielder Michael Conforto to a minor league deal yesterday.

(Atlanta, GA) — The Falcons are planning to keep one of their premier pass catchers. ESPN reports the team will use the franchise tag on Kyle Pitts. He finished with almost 90 receptions for more than 900 yards last season, which ranked second in both categories among tight ends. The tag will keep Pitts in Atlanta on a one-year deal worth about 16-million dollars. The deadline for teams to use franchise or transition tags is next Tuesday.

(Kansas City, MO) — The Chiefs are moving on from a member of two of their Super Bowl-winning teams. Kansas City has released defensive end Mike Danna as they continue to work to get under the salary cap before the start of the new league year. The move saves the Chiefs nine-million-dollars on their salary cap for the 2026 season. The 28-year-old Danna started 14 games last season and totaled 25 tackles, one sack and an interception. He was drafted by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Michigan.

(Foxboro, MA) — A veteran running back will hit the free agency market. The Patriots released Antonio Gibson on Monday. The 27-year-old had no guaranteed money left on his contract heading into next season. Gibson is recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in Week Five and signed with New England in 2024 after spending four years with Washington. NFL free agency begins on March 9th.

(Undated) — A veteran offensive lineman is calling it a career. Los Angeles Chargers starting center Bradley Bozeman announced his retirement from the NFL on social media on Monday. The 31-year-old spent the first four years of his career with the Baltimore Ravens after being selected in the sixth round of the 2018 Draft out of Alabama. He played in 129 games with 110 starts throughout his eight-year career. He played the last two years with the Chargers after spending two seasons with the Carolina Panthers.

(Detroit, MI) — The Spurs extended their lengthy winning streak after taking down the Pistons 114-103 from Detroit. Devin Vassell led all scorers with 28 points. Victor Wembanyama sunk 21 and grabbed 17 rebounds to go with six blocks as San Antonio has won nine straight. Cade Cunningham struggled to 16 points on just 5-of-26 shooting for Detroit, which had a five-game winning streak snap.

ESPN is reporting that Class of 2027 four-star quarterback Gunner Rivers has committed to NC State. Rivers is ESPN’s 11th-ranked pocket passer in the cycle and currently plays at Alabama’s St. Michael Catholic High School. He chose the Wolfpack over reported offers from Auburn, Boston College, Miami and South Carolina. Philip Rivers was a four-year starter at NC State from 2000-to-2003 and was selected fourth overall in the 2004 NFL Draft.

(Undated) — A new team is sitting atop the men’s college basketball coaches poll. Duke secured the Number-1 position after earning 27 first-place votes. Arizona climbed to second while Michigan and Houston dropped to three-and-four. Iowa State and UConn are next followed by Florida, which surged four spots to seventh. Purdue, Gonzaga and Nebraska round out the Top-10. Clemson and Wisconsin fell out of the Top-25 and were replaced by a pair of SEC teams. Alabama is now ranked 18th while Tennessee is 22nd.

Illinois men’s basketball did not move in the latest AP college basketball poll, staying at No. 10 in the national rankings after a 1-1 week in California. The Illini play just one game in the upcoming week, hosting No. 3 Michigan on Friday. Friday’s game will be the first meeting of two teams ranked in the top 10 nationally in State Farm Center history. The Illini have not seen a battle of two top 10 teams on their home floor since before the arena was renamed from Assembly Hall. The last battle of two top 10 teams in Champaign came on January 5, 2006 when Dee Brown scored 34 points to help No. 6 Illinois beat No. 7 Michigan State 60-50.

(Milan) — The US took home a record number of gold medals from the 2026 Winter Games. Team USA won 12 gold in Milan to surpass its previous record of 10 during the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City. Both the US men’s and women’s ice hockey teams came away with gold after topping Canada in overtime. It was the first time the men’s team won it all since the Miracle On Ice at the 1980 Winter Games in Lake Placid. The Americans also won three gold in freestyle skiing, two in alpine skiing, two in figure skating, two in speed skating and one in bobsledding. The Stars and Stripes finished with the second-most medals at 33.
