WAYNE COUNTY SHERIFF’S MERIT COMMISSION ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR FULL-TIME CORRECTIONAL OFFICER

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Merit Commission is now accepting applications for the position of full-time Correctional Officer, aiming to establish a hiring list that will remain valid for two years or until all candidates have been considered.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old at the time of hire, though individuals who will turn 21 within the two-year eligibility period are also encouraged to apply.

The Wayne County Jail is a 34-bed facility housing both male and female detainees. The corrections field continues to grow, offering an exciting career path for both men and women. Prospective applicants are encouraged to visit the Sheriff’s Office to obtain an application and speak with staff about any questions regarding the position.

Starting pay for full-time Correctional Officers is $21.67 per hour. Officers receive a comprehensive county employee benefits package, including health insurance, participation in the IMRF retirement system, contractual yearly raises, longevity raises, vacation time, comp-time, and personal days. Correctional Officers work four consecutive 10-hour shifts, followed by three consecutive days off.

The Sheriff’s Office is also accepting applications for lateral transfers. Certified Correctional Officers can transfer up to 10 years of seniority towards payroll.

Interested individuals can pick up an application at the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office until the close of business on March 27th.
