IHSA BOYS CLASS 2A VANDALIA REGIONAL:
On Wednesday night, the Fairfield Mules Basketball team kicked off their postseason at the Vandalia Regional with a matchup against the Richland County Tigers. In what turned out to be a close game throughout, the Mules were able to outlast the Tigers for a 40-37 victory. Fairfield was led in scoring by Jake Easton with 16 points. The Mules now advance to the Vandalia Regional Championship on Friday night against the host Vandalia Vandals who upset Effingham St. Anthony on a controversial buzzer-beater.

The Chicago Bulls will try to snap their 10-game losing streak when they host the Portland Trail Blazers at United Center tonight. The Bulls are coming off a 131-99 loss to the Charlotte Hornets at home on Tuesday. Chicago is in 12th place in the Eastern Conference at 24-and-35. Tonight’s game tips off at 7:00PM.

The Pacers are hoping to put an end to their current skid. Indiana has dropped each of its last four games entering tonight’s contest. The Pacers are playing hosting to the Charlotte Hornets.

The St. Louis Blues return from the Olympic break with a game against the Seattle Kraken at Enterprise Center tonight. The Blues are on a three-game losing streak after dropping their most recent game against the Dallas Stars 5-4 on February 4th. St. Louis is in last place in the Central Division with 49 points. The Chicago Blackhawks return from the Olympic break with a game against the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena tonight. The Hawks are coming off a 4-0 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets in their most recent game on February 4th. Chicago has 53 points and a 22-26-and-9 record this season. Matthew Boyd starts for Chicago against the Angels today.

The Chicago White Sox lost to the Cincinnati Reds 3-2 in a Spring Training game from Camelback Ranch. (London) — The Jacksonville Jaguars and Washington Commanders will head across the pond this upcoming NFL season. The league announced Wednesday the two teams will each play games at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2026. The Jaguars will also play a game at Wembley Stadium. The NFL is set to play a record nine international games across four continents in 2026. Earlier this week it was announced the Detroit Lions will play a game in Germany.

(Lake Forest, IL) — Tremaine Edmunds might not be back with the Bears next season. ESPN is reporting that Chicago is allowing its starting linebacker to seek a trade this offseason. The 27-year-old is entering the final year of his contract. Edmunds tied a career high with four interceptions last season. He also tallied 112 tackles and one sack in 13 games.

(Columbus, OH) — A top pick in April’s NFL draft is clarifying his position. Arvell Reese told the media on Wednesday that he views himself as an outside linebacker or an edge player. It was his first time playing the role for Ohio State last season after spending most of his time as an off-ball linebacker. He tallied six-and-half-sacks to go with almost 70 tackles. Reese is projected as a top-five pick.

(Cincinnati, OH) — Another NIL dispute is taking place in the college football world. Cincinnati sued former quarterback Brendan Sorsby on Wednesday. The school says he breached a contract with the team after transferring to Texas Tech. Lawyers claim a one-million dollar exit fee needed to be paid to the university if Sorsby left before spending two years with the team. He reportedly took a deal with the Red Raiders that will pay him four-to-six million.

(Toronto, ON) — The San Antonio Spurs turned in a strong fourth quarter during a 110-107 win over the Toronto Raptors at Scotiabank Arena. The Spurs were down 12 entering the fourth before outscoring Toronto 32-17 the rest of the way. Devin Vassell led the way with 21 points, while De’Aaron Fox chipped in with 20 points. San Antonio is on a 10-game winning streak. Brandon Ingram and Immanuel Quickley both scored 20 points in the losing effort. Toronto has dropped three of five.

(Pittsburgh, PA) — The Penguins are dealing with a major injury to their captain at a critical juncture of the season. The team placed Sidney Crosby on IR Wednesday with a lower-body issue. The 38-year-old got hurt during Canada’s quarterfinal win over Czechia in the Winter Olympics. Crosby missed the rest of the tournament and is expected to miss at least four weeks as Pittsburgh clings to a playoff spot.

(Oldmans Township, NJ) — Lawyers for the man accused of driving drunk and killing NHL star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother are now arguing their client’s blood alcohol level was below the legal driving limit. Lawyers for Sean Higgins argued this week in court that his blood alcohol level was lower than what the test showed because the test at the southern New Jersey crash scene was for plasma and not whole blood. Lawyers are seeking the actual blood alcohol level of point-zero-75 to be used or the case be dismissed. Prosecutors have yet to respond. The next hearing in the case is April 14th.

(Newark, NJ) — The Sabres returned from the Olympic break and topped the Devils 2-1 in Newark. Tage Thompson opened the scoring with his 31st goal of the season. He also recorded his 30th assist of the year. Buffalo now has 72 points after snapping a two-game skid. Timo Meier scored the only goal of the game for New Jersey, which remains at 58 points after its fourth straight loss.

>>Yankees To Retire CC Sabathia’s Number 52

(Undated) — Another Yankees legend is set to be immortalized as a member of Monument Park. Hall of Fame pitcher CC Sabathia posted to social media on Wednesday that his number 52 is going to be retired by the Bronx Bombers. Sabathia will be the 24th former player to have his number retired by the Pinstripes. He spent over a decade in New York where he helped capture the World Series in 2009. A plaque will be dedicated to Sabathia prior to September 26th’s game against the Baltimore Orioles.

(Palm Beach Gardens, FL) — Joe Highsmith will be looking to defend his title at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches. Highsmith won last year’s tournament by two strokes after finishing atop the leaderboard at 19 under par. The 25-year-old will be alongside Chris Kirk and Keith Mitchell for the first and second rounds. Taylor Moore, Harry Higgs and Hank Lebioda will be among the first group of players teeing off at PGA National Resort.
