HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS TRACK:
On Thursday, the Fairfield Lady Mules Track team opened their season at the Joe Elliott Indoor Meet at Marion. The Lady Mules finished 13th out 21 teams. Notable individual performances included: Emeri Sager – 7th in the 800m and 6th in the 1600m, Mahogany Langford – 5th in Shot Put, and Remi Taylor – 5th in the Pole Vault. They will be back in action next Friday at the EIU Indoor Track Meet at Charleston.

 

HIGH SCHOOL BOYS TRACK:
On Friday, the Fairfield Mules Boys Track team was in action at the Roger Minton Indoor Meet at Marion. The Mules finished 8th out of 20 teams and were the highest placing 1A team at the event. Notable individual performances included: Justin Johnson – 4th in the 60m, 2nd in the 200m, and 3rd in the Triple Jump; Cayson Webb – 3rd in the High Jump; Jayden Wilson – 9th in the Shot Put; and the team of Kanyen Lingafelter, Treyton Lewis, Jarrett Welty, and Skylar Bladel – 4th in the 4×800 Relay. The Mules next meet will be next Saturday at the EIU Indoor Track Meet at Charleston.

JR HIGH GIRLS VOLLEYBALL:
HAMILTON COUNTY JR HIGH GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT:
On Saturday, the Fairfield Lady Colts competed at the Hamilton County Jr. High Volleyball Tournament and finished in 4th place in the 8-team tournament.

FIELD JR HIGH GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT:
On Friday, the Wayne City Lady Braves Volleyball team competed in the Field Jr. High Girls Volleyball Tournament. The Lady Braves finished in 1st Place, going 3-0 in the tournament with 2-set victories over Sandoval, Raccoon, and Field.

The Bulls used a 27-0 run to beat the Bucks 120-97 in the Windy City. Collin Sexton led Chicago with 22 points off the bench, while Josh Giddey had a triple-double of 20 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists. The Bulls snapped an 11-game losing streak to improve to 25-and-36 this season. They host the Thunder tomorrow night.

The Pacers were blown out by the Memphis Grizzlies 125-106 from Indianapolis. Jarace Walker led all scorers with 21 points for the Pacers. Indiana has now dropped six straight and will visit the LA Clippers on Wednesday.

The St. Louis Blues came through in the clutch during a 3-1 win over the Minnesota Wild at Grand Casino Arena. The game was tied at one with under four minutes left in regulation when Pavel Buchnevich scored a go-ahead goal. Robert Thomas added an empty-netter in the final minute, while Logan Mailloux also scored in the victory. The Blues have won two of three. They remain in last place in the Central Division with 53 points. St. Louis visits Seattle on Wednesday.

Arvid Soderblom led the Blackhawks to a 4-0 road win over the Mammoth. Soderblom stopped all 22 shots he faced to secure his first shutout of the season for Chicago. Teuvo Teravainen scored a pair of goals, while Nick Foligno and Landon Slaggert added one apiece. The Blackhawks snapped a three-game skid to improve to 23-28-and-9 on the year. They visit the Jets tomorrow night.

(Champaign, IL) — The number-11 Illinois Fighting Illini have dropped their last two games following an 84-70 loss to number-three Michigan at State Farm Center on Friday. The Illini were outscored by seven points in each half. Keaton Wagler led Illinois with 23 points in the losing effort. The Illini dropped to 13-and-5 in Big Ten play and 22-and-7 overall. They host Oregon tomorrow night.

(Jupiter, FL) — Oli Marmol is sticking around. The Cardinals signed their manager to a two-year extension over the weekend. The deal includes a club option for 2029. Marmol has led St. Louis to a 325-and-323 record over his last four seasons, and the team has missed the playoffs in each of the last three years. In other Cardinals news, St. Louis lost to Pittsburgh 6-1 in Spring Training action yesterday.

>>Colorado QB Dominiq Ponder Dies

(Boulder, CO) — The Colorado football team is mourning the death of one of its players. Buffaloes quarterback Dominiq Ponder has died at 23. The third-year sophomore from Florida spent the past two seasons with the program after transferring from Bethune-Cookman. No information about the cause of Ponder’s death was immediately available. Colorado is set to open spring practice Monday in Boulder.

>>Cowboys Place Franchise Tag On WR Pickens

(Frisco, TX) — The Cowboys are not planning on letting one of their star receivers depart the team this offseason. Dallas has placed the franchise tag on wide receiver George Pickens to secure his right through the upcoming season. Pickens would have a guaranteed salary of 27.298-million-dollars if he chooses to play on the tag. The team also has until July 15th to get a long-term deal with Pickens finalized. The 24-year-old had 93 catches for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns in his first season with Dallas.

>>Falcons Move On From Assistant Coach After Assault Allegations

(Atlanta, GA) — The Falcons are already moving on from a coach following serious allegations. ESPN reports LaTroy Lewis was dismissed from the team on Friday for sexual assault claims dating back to 2024 when he was on Michigan’s football staff. Police say the incident happened after Lewis met a woman at a hotel through a dating app. He was hired as Atlanta’s assistant defensive line coach last month.

>>Warriors’ Curry To Sit At Least Five More Games

(San Francisco, CA) — The greatest three-point shooter in NBA history will be sidelined a while longer as he continues to recover from a nagging right knee injury. Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry will miss at least the next five games after the team announced it will re-evaluate him in 10 days due to what is commonly referred to as runner’s knee. Curry has missed the team’s previous 10 games and the Warriors are 4-and-6 without him in the lineup. The 37-year-old is averaging 27.2 points through 39 games played this season.

>>76ers’ Joel Embiid Once Again Injured

(Philadelphia, PA) — The 76ers are dealing with yet another injury to their big man. Joel Embiid is working through an oblique issue and will be re-evaluated after the team plays back-to-back home games starting on Tuesday. An MRI revealed the injury on Saturday after the 31-year-old felt a strain late last week. Embiid has played in just 33 games this season due to endless ailments.

(Undated) — The Los Angeles Kings are moving on from their head coach. Los Angeles announced that it is firing coach Jim Hiller before the end of his second full season in the role. Associate head coach D.J. Smith is taking over as the interim head coach and is expected to serve in that role for the remainder of the season. The 56-year-old Hiller had been promoted to head coach following the midseason firing of Todd McLellan in 2024. The team went a combined 175-93-and-58 with him at the helm. Smith was head coach of the Ottawa Senators fro parts of five seasons from 2019-to-2024 before joining LA as an assistant coach.

(Palm Beach Gardens, FL) — Nico Echavarria is celebrating his third career Tour victory after winning the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches. Echavarria finished atop the leaderboard by two strokes to capture the title at 17 under par. Taylor Moore, Shane Lowry and Austin Smotherman finished tied for second at 15 under. Defending champion Joe Highsmith finished 67th at six over par.

>>Tyler Reddick Wins Austin To Make NASCAR History

(Austin, TX) — Tyler Reddick is playing on “easy” mode. The driver of the Number-45 car took home the checkered flag in the DuraMax Texas Grand Prix from Austin. This is the first time a NASCAR Cup Series racer has won the opening three tracks to kick off a new season. Shane van Gisbergen, Christopher Bell, Ty Gibbs and Michael McDowell rounded out the top-five finishers. The field heads to Phoenix Raceway next Sunday.
