ONE DEAD, FOUR INJURED IN THREE SEPARATE ACCIDENTS ON I-64 NEAR JEFFERSON/WASHINGTON COUNTY LINE

One person has died and at least four others have been injured following a series of three separate vehicle accidents early Saturday morning on Interstate 64 near the Jefferson and Washington County line, according to the Illinois State Police.

The first accident occurred at approximately 5:08 a.m. on the I-64 eastbound exit ramp to County Road 600 East (milepost 69) in Jefferson County. The crash involved two vehicles, and at least one person was reported injured.

Just one hour later, at 6:08 a.m., a single-vehicle rollover accident was reported on I-64 westbound east of mile marker 61, near the Jefferson/Washington County line. One victim in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, while another was transported to a local hospital with injuries.

Following this second accident, both eastbound and westbound lanes of the interstate were shut down for a short time.

A third accident was reported at approximately 7:29 a.m. near the same location as the second crash. This incident involved three vehicles, and two occupants were transported to local hospitals with injuries.

No further information has been released by the Illinois State Police at this time as investigations into each crash remain ongoing.
