Charles Wilburn Wheeler Jr. 71 of Benton, IL. passed away Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Helia Healthcare in Benton, IL. Charles was a son of Charles Wilburn Wheeler Sr. and Patricia Sue (Carr) Wheeler.

Charles worked as a Foreman at Carmi Molded Rubber, Carmi, IL. He was a member of the Delafield Baptist Church. Charles loved playing music with many instruments. He founded the original “Rolling Country Band”.

Survivors include his daughters, Melinda Potter, Mt. Vernon, IL., Sarah Flannigan and husband Larry, Mt. Vernon, IL. and Emily Potter, Billings, Montana. Sons Charles Wheeler, III. and wife Beth, McLeansboro, IL. and David Potter and wife Bobbie, Evansville, IN. Sister’s surviving is Sandy Bullock and husband Jeff, Dahlgren, IL. and Susie Friedman and husband Dennis, McLeansboro, IL. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents and wife Maywood (Bentley) Wheeler.

Services: No local services are planned as per personal wishes. Charles’ ashes are to be combined with his wife’s and spread at a special place in Kentucky by his family at a later date.

Harre Funeral Home McLeansboro is in charge of arrangements.
