The Mt. Carmel Police Department officially has a new leader, as Erin Peach was unanimously approved as Chief during the Mt. Carmel City Council’s regular meeting on Tuesday. Peach, a native of Fairfield and formerly known as Erin Roe, becomes the first female police chief in the department’s history.

Peach had been serving as Interim Chief since January 20th, following the retirement of longtime Chief Mike McWilliams. With Tuesday’s vote, her position is now permanent.

Family, friends, and fellow members of law enforcement, including Wabash County Sheriff Derek Morgan and State’s Attorney Kelli Storckman, were present for Peach’s swearing-in ceremony.

City officials praised Peach’s leadership experience and dedication to the department, stating she is well-equipped to guide the Mt. Carmel Police Department into the future.
