Formed in 1974, 38 Special earned a reputation for their relentless touring schedule and explosive live performances, which helped define the arena rock sound of the late 1970s and 1980s. The Florida-based band is known for their blend of driving guitars and melodic hooks, producing hits that became staples of FM radio.
Despite changing musical trends and lineup shifts over the decades, 38 Special has continued to tour extensively, keeping the spirit of classic rock alive. Now entering its sixth decade, the band has released “Milestone,” its first studio album in over 20 years. The album reflects the group’s evolution, blending their trademark sound with modern production.
“After all this time, we wanted to create a more modern 38 Special album,” said frontman and co-founder Don Barnes. “This is a fresh, updated approach to the sound we’ve been making together for so long. Why not make a big statement after all these years? When you’re reintroducing yourself to the world, ‘good enough’ doesn’t work anymore. If you’re gonna do it, you might as well go big.”
The upcoming concert is expected to draw fans from across Southern Illinois and beyond, as Walker’s Bluff Casino Resort commemorates three years of entertainment and hospitality in the region.
