The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Flood Watch effective through Thursday morning for portions of southern Illinois near and north of Highway 13, as well as southwest Indiana and northwest Kentucky.
Officials warn that flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible in these regions. The risk stems fromĀ showers and thunderstorms expected to continue through tonight. Forecasters predict an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain on top of the 1 to 2 inches that already fell Wednesday morning.
The excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone locations. Urban areas and locations with poor drainage are particularly vulnerable, and low-water crossings may become impassable.
Residents are urged to monitor local weather updates and exercise caution, especially in areas known to flood easily. The situation will be closely monitored by authorities, and updates will be provided as necessary.
