On Friday at the State Tournament in Champaign, it was announced that Fairfield Mule Senior Jake Easton has been named to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All-State Special Mention Team. Easton Is now eligible to play in the IBCA All-Star Game June 13th in Pontiac. Easton was also named to the Southern Illinois Coaches Association All-South Boys Basketball 2A Team on Saturday.

Also on Friday, the Midland Trail Conference announced its All-Conference Boys Basketball Team. Notable local players on the team were: Nathaniel Marlow – Webber – Player of the Year; Hagen Howard – Cisne – 1st Team; Zach Dagg – Cisne – 1st Team; James Walker – Wayne City – 1st Team; Jake Hosman – Grayville – 1st Team; and Ian Kleinschmidt – Grayville – Honorable Mention. The Chicago Bulls struggled in the second half during a 119-108 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers at Intuit Dome on Friday. The Bulls led in the middle of the third quarter before trailing by as many as 14 points in the fourth. Tre Jones scored 21 points in the losing effort, while Josh Giddey finished with 20 points, ten assists, and 11 rebounds. Chicago is in 12th place in the Eastern Conference at 27-and-40. The Bulls host the Grizzlies tonight.

The St. Louis Blues had their seven-game point streak snapped with a 3-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets at Canada Life Centre. The Blues surrendered a pair of goals in the first period and trailed the rest of the way. Dalibor Dvorsky and Dylan Holloway both lit the lamp in the losing effort. St. Louis is in seventh place in the Central Division with 64 points. The Blues visit the Flames on Wednesday night.

The Chicago Blackhawks couldn’t get the puck past Adin Hill during a 4-0 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday. The Blackhawks allowed three goals in the first 12 minutes of the game and trailed the rest of the way. Spencer Knight had 28 saves in the losing effort. Chicago is in last place in the Central Division with 61 points. The Hawks host the Wild tomorrow night.

>>Illini Fall To Wisconsin

(Chicago, IL) — The number-12 Illinois Fighting Illini were defeated by number-20 Wisconsin 91-88 in overtime during the Big Ten Tournament from the United Center on Friday. The Illini allowed a 10-3 run during the extra period and couldn’t get back into the game. Keaton Wagler and David Mirkovic both scored 19 points in the losing effort. Illinois earned a three-seed in the NCAA Tournament and will take on Penn on Thursday.

(Undated) — March Madness is officially here. The NCAA Tournament released its 68-team bracket on Sunday. Duke is the top-overall seed in the tourney and will represent the East Region. Arizona is Number-1 in the West, Michigan sits atop the Midwest and Florida is the final one-seed in the South. Miami-Ohio slipped into the tournament despite suffering its first loss of the season in the MAC quarterfinals. They’ll face SMU on Wednesday in a First Four matchup while Lehigh battles Prairie View in the other win-and-in contest. A pair of games kick off the First Four on Tuesday when NC State duels Texas.and Howard squares off against UMBC.

(Miami, FL) — Team USA advanced to the World Baseball Classic title game with a 2-1 win over the Dominican Republic. Gunnar Henderson and Roman Anthony each hit a solo home run to give the Americans their only runs. Paul Skenes picked up the win, while Mason Miller secured the save. Junior Caminero drove in the lone run for the DR with a home run. The round-tripper was the 15th of the tournament for the Dominicans, setting a tournament record. The US will face either Venezuela or Italy in the championship game on Tuesday.

(Mesa, AZ) — Seiya Suzuki’s Opening Day status is in doubt. The Cubs outfielder was injured during Team Japan’s loss in the World Baseball Classic over the weekend. Suzuki hurt his right knee during the losing effort. Manager Craig Counsell wasn’t sure how severe the setback is. The 31-year-old hit .245 with 32 home runs and 103 RBI’s in 151 games with the Northsiders last year.

(Philadelphia, PA) — The Eagles are bringing back their veteran tight end. ESPN reports the team signed Dallas Goedert [[ GOD-ert ]] on Sunday to a one-year deal worth seven-million dollars. The contract includes a more than four-million-dollar signing bonus. The 31-year-old caught a career-high 60 passes last season for almost 600 yards. Goedert also set a personal best with 11 touchdown receptions.

(New York, NY) — Jalen Brunson led the New York Knicks to a 110-107 win over the Golden State Warriors in the Big Apple. Brunson scored a game-high 30 points and made all 10 of his free-throw attempts in the victory. The Knicks have won three straight games to improve to 44-and-25. Golden State’s Brandin Podziemski scored a team-high 25 points in the setback. Quinten Post chipped in 22 points as the Warriors improved to 32-and-35. The Warriors have lost five straight and currently sit ninth in the West at 32-and-35.

(Chicago, IL) — Purdue is celebrating another Big Ten men’s basketball championship. The 13th-ranked Boilermakers beat third-ranked Michigan 80-72 in the conference title game on Sunday in Chicago. Oscar Cluff netted 21 points to lead Purdue, which won its third Big Ten title in school history. Yaxel Lendeborg scored 20 points for the Wolverines, who fell to 31-and-3 but still earned a one-seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Boilermakers earned the two-seed in the West Region.

(Ponte Verde Beach, FL) — Cameron Young is celebrating his second career victory on Tour after winning the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. Young finished atop the leaderboard by one stroke at 13 under par. Matt Fitzpatrick finished in second at 12 under, and Xander Schauffele rounded out the top three at 11 under par. Defending champion Rory McIlroy finished tied with three others at 46th after finishing the tournament even.

>>Denny Hamlin Edges Chase Elliott To Win Pennzoil 400

(Las Vegas, NV) — Denny Hamlin is taking home the checkered flag in the Pennzoil 400. The driver of the Number-11 car held-off Chase Elliott by about half-a-second to earn the NASCAR Cup Series victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. William Byron, Christopher Bell and Ty Gibbs rounded out the top-five finishers. The field heads to classic Darlington Raceway next Sunday for the Goodyear 400.
