EDWARDS COUNTY PRIMARY ELECTION RESULTS ANNOUNCED

All 12 precincts in Edwards County have reported results from the Tuesday primary election, with overall voter turnout reaching just over 29 percent. Of the county’s 4,304 registered voters, 1,275 ballots were cast. Republican voters made up the overwhelming majority, submitting 1,158 ballots (90.82%), while 117 ballots (9.18%) were cast in the Democratic primary. Official results will be counted after 14 days from the day of the primary election.

Additionally, the Edwards County Clerk’s office still has 50 vote by mail ballots that have not been returned yet.

Several county offices on the Republican ballot were uncontested. Melanie Knight was elected County Clerk and Recorder with 1,051 votes, Jennifer L. Thomason secured the County Treasurer position with 1,036 votes, and Bryan L. Hart received 1,075 votes for County Sheriff. Sheila M. Alton was also unopposed for Supervisor of Assessments, earning 971 votes.

In contested Republican races, Sarah E. Emery won the Regional Superintendent of Schools race with 757 votes (76.39%), defeating Shain Crank, who received 234 votes (23.61%). Diane M. Harris led the Secretary of State race with 717 votes (73.99%), while Walter Adamczyk received 252 votes (26.01%). For the 116th District State Representative, Dave Severin won with 620 votes (56.26%), edging Angela Evans, who garnered 482 votes (43.74%). Mike Bost ran unopposed for the 12th Congressional District, receiving 986 votes.

On the Democratic side, turnout was significantly lower, and several races featured no candidates. In the U.S. Senate primary, Juliana Stratton led with 35 votes (32.11%), followed by Raja Krishnamoorthi with 30 votes (27.52%) and Robin Kelly with 23 votes (21.10%). Kevin Ryan received 12 votes (11.01%), with the remaining votes split among other candidates.

Governor J.B. Pritzker and Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton ran unopposed, receiving 104 votes. Kwame Raoul secured the Attorney General nomination with 101 votes, while Alexi Giannoulias also ran unopposed for Secretary of State, receiving 101 votes. In the Comptroller race, Holly Kim led with 42 votes (43.30%), followed by Karina Villa and Margaret Croke with 20 votes each (20.62%), and Stephanie A. Kifowit with 15 votes (15.46%). Michael W. Frerichs was unopposed for Treasurer, receiving 97 votes.

For the 12th District State Central Committeeperson, Vivian Robinson received 81 votes (56.25%) and Calen Campanella received 63 votes (43.75%). Cheryl Quinn ran unopposed for County Clerk and Recorder on the Democratic side, earning 99 votes.

Many Democratic races for local offices, including County Treasurer, County Sheriff, Supervisor of Assessments, and County Commissioner, had no candidates. Several precinct committeeperson positions across both parties were also left unfilled.
