Four Confirmed Tornadoes On Sunday
(New Athens, IL) — The National Weather Service is confirming four tornadoes in the Metro East during the severe weather on Sunday. The agency says tornadoes touched down near Ames, New Athens, and Carlyle Lake with winds between 85-and-90 miles-per-hour. A fourth tornado was confirmed in Witt-Nokomis, but the strength of the twister has yet to be determined. The tornadoes caused damage to trees and several outbuildings, but no injuries were reported.
About 20 Sirens Failed After Tornado Warning Issued
(St. Clair County, IL) — Almost two-dozen sirens failed to activate automatically in St. Clair County after a tornado warning was issued on Sunday. Emergency officials say close to 20 sirens did not sound to alert residents of a warning for the southern part of the county until they were triggered manually. The Emergency Management Agency believes an interconnection issue between the warning system and the sirens themselves was to blame. They said they’ve contacted the company that installed the sirens and expect the problem to be fixed.
Man Accused Of Stabbing Grandfather To Death
(Belleville, IL) — A man is in custody for allegedly killing his grandfather. Twenty-year-old Armani Floyd is accused of fatally stabbing 69-year-old Arther Heard inside his home in Belleville on Sunday. Police said Floyd was living with Heard at the time of the stabbing, but fled when family members went to check on him after he didn’t show up to church. Floyd was found in St. Louis and arrested a few hours later.
