Lewis Lee “Lewie” Gage, 74, of Dahlgren, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He was born September 15, 1951 in McLeansboro at Vickers Memorial Hospital to Frank D. & Veneda Genevieve (Grimes) Gage. On September 14, 1991 at the Dahlgren Community Chapel, he married Paula Kay Cockrum, who survives.
Lewie retired from Continental Tire in Mt. Vernon in 2006. Then he started Lewie’s Mowing Service is Dahlgren, which was his passion. He was an avid deer hunter, and he also enjoyed turkey hunting and camping when he had time. Spending time with his kids and grandkids brought him the most joy of all.
He is survived by his wife: Paula Gage of Dahlgren; 4 children: Lemuel (Shellie) Gage of Dahlgren, Mindy (Justin Hase) Neal of Dahlgren, Levi (Maranda) Gage of Dahlgren, and Mekayla (Darren) Topping of Dahlgren; 8 grandchildren: Darian Gage, Landree (fiancé Clayton Jones) Gage, Clay Gage, Lexy Neal, Weston Gage, Layton Topping, Josilyn Topping and Rowen Topping; 1 great-grandchild: Jagger Jones; and 4 siblings: Keith Gage of Dahlgren, Kay (Don Kennedy) Lowery of Dahlgren, Herb (Bev) Gage of McLeansboro, and Judy (Gale) Hastings of Dahlgren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, sister Carolyn Rubenacker, and grandchild Baby Topping.
Funeral services for Lewis Lee “Lewie” Gage will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren with Pastor John Hefner officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will take place immediately following the funeral at Bethel (Waugh) Cemetery near Dahlgren.
