On Wednesday night, the Fairfield Mules Competition Cheerleading team held their Winter Sports Awards. Senior Kacie Kinsolving was named Cheerleader of the Year and Junior Macie Edwards was named Most Improved.

Tai Peete and Ramon Mendoza both homered in the victory, while Kyle Leahy struck out six over five scoreless innings. The Cardinals are 13-and-9 in Grapefruit League action. They take on the Nationals this afternoon.

(Dayton, OH) — The 64-team NCAA men’s basketball tournament field is set. Prairie View A-and-M crushed Lehigh 67-55 in the First Four to earn the 16th-seed in the South Region and will battle Number-1 Florida. Miami of Ohio took down SMU 89-79 to claim the 11th-seed in the Midwest and will square off against sixth-ranked Tennessee in the First Round. Sixteen games are on the slate Thursday to tip off the opening round.

(Greenville, SC) — The three-seed Illinois Fighting Illini are back in the NCAA Tournament for the sixth year in a row. The Illini go up against 14-seed Penn in the First Round from Bon Secours Wellness Arena tonight. The Illini were one-and-done in the Big Ten Tournament and finished the regular season with a 15-and-5 conference record and a 24-and-8 mark overall. Tonight’s game tips off at 8:25pm and can be heard on WFIW-AM 1390 and FM 103.3 on the Illini Sports Radio Network. Pregame show starts at 7:30pm.

(Undated) — A veteran signal caller is on the move. According to ESPN, the Eagles have acquired backup quarterback Andy Dalton from the Panthers in exchange for a seventh round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. The deal saves Carolina a little over two-million-dollars in salary cap space for the upcoming season and four-million-dollars in cash. Dalton was selected by the Bengals in the second round of the 2011 draft, and has thrown for nearly 40-thousand yards to go along with over 250 touchdowns in his career.

(Lake Forest, IL) — Jack Sanborn is back with the Chicago Bears. The team signed the linebacker to a contract for the 2026 season yesterday. Sanborn spent last season with the Cowboys after playing with Chicago for the first three years of his career. The 25-year-old made 34 tackles in six games with Dallas during the 2025 campaign.

(Indianapolis, IN) — The Colts added to their receiving corps on Wednesday. Indianapolis signed wideout Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. He spent the first five seasons of his NFL career with the Tennessee Titans before playing for the Miami Dolphins last season. In other news, four-time Pro Bowler T.Y. Hilton announced his retirement on social media.

(Undated) — A longtime Colts receiver has called it a career. Four-time Pro Bowl wideout T.Y. Hilton announced his retirement via social media on Wednesday. Hilton thanked the late Jim Irsay, his family, and the entire organization for taking a chance on him to live his dream. He was selected by Indianapolis in the third round of the 2012 draft, and also spent time with the Dallas Cowboys.

(Undated) — A veteran linebacker is calling it quits. Logan Wilson announced his retirement on Wednesday. The 29-year-old appeared in seven games with the Cowboys last season after the team traded a seventh-round pick to the Bengals. Wilson racked up more than 540 tackles to go with 11 interceptions in 65 career starts with Cincy. He was taken in the third round of the 2020 draft.

>>Celtics Blow Out Warriors

(Boston, MA) — The Celtics blew out the Warriors 120-99 at TD Garden. Jaylen Brown led all scorers with 32 points for the C’s. Jayson Tatum recorded a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Boston has now won each of its last three games. Gary Payton the Second and Pat Spencer led the Warriors in scoring with 14 points apiece off the bench. Golden State has dropped six of its last seven games.

>>Five-Star Recruit Commits To USC

(Los Angeles, CA) — One of the top recruits in the 2026 class has decided where he will play college basketball. Five-star forward Christian Collins announced his commitment to USC on Wednesday. The Los Angeles native now becomes the third McDonald’s All-American to join the Trojans in this cycle, joining seven-foot twins Adonis and Darius Ratliff. Collins chose the Trojans over a final three that also included Kentucky and Louisville. He is ESPN’s fifth-ranked recruit in the Class of 2026.

>>Air Force Hires Crispin As Men’s Basketball Coach

(Colorado Springs, CO) — Air Force has decided on its next men’s head basketball coach. The academy is hiring Penn State assistant Joe Crispin to lead the program moving forward. Crispin will take over for Joe Scott, who mutually parted ways with the Falcons last month after being suspended pending an investigation into his treatment of cadets in January. The 46-year-old Crispin has been an assistant at Penn State since 2023 following a seven-season stretch as the head coach at Rowan University. The Falcons finished this season with a 3-and-29 record.

>>Court Dismisses Defamation Lawsuit By Ex-Stanford Coach

(Undated) — A federal court in California has dismissed a defamation lawsuit by former Stanford football coach Troy Taylor. The ruling was found that the reporting done by ESPN and reporter Xuan Thai reflected the facts of two Stanford-commissioned investigations of alleged discriminatory conduct by Taylor while serving as head coach. Stanford announced Taylor’s firing last March following an ESPN report that identified more than 20 former and current Stanford athletics staffers who had cooperated with investigators.

(Palm Harbor, FL) — Viktor Hovland will be looking to defend his title at the Valspar Championship from Palm Harbor. Hovland won last year’s tournament by one stroke after finishing atop the leaderboard at 11 under par. He will be alongside Brooks Koepka and Corey Conners for the first and second rounds. Alex Smalley, Justin Lower and Max McGreevy will be among the first group of players teeing off round one.
