A multi-vehicle accident with injuries occurred late Friday morning on Illinois Route 15 just east of Fairfield, near the west drive to the Fairfield Rural Fire Department Station and the former Vaughan’s Food Store.
Emergency crews responded to the scene at 11:39 a.m., including the Fairfield City Fire Department, Fairfield Police, Fairfield Rural Fire Department, and Wayne County Ambulance.
According to officials, three vehicles were involved in the accident. Two individuals at the scene refused medical treatment. One person was transported by Wayne County Ambulance to Fairfield Memorial Hospital.
An Air Evac helicopter from Mt. Vernon was dispatched and airlifted one victim from the scene to an area hospital for further treatment.
The Fairfield Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the accident.
