A Sunday afternoon fire destroyed a garage and caused damage to a home in Mount Vernon. Fire crews were dispatched around 12:15 p.m. to 1500 N. 17th Street, where they found a garage and deck attached to the residence fully engulfed in flames.
A box alarm was issued to bring in additional support, resulting in multiple agencies responding to the scene. Mt. Vernon Fire Department received assistance from Kell Fire, Benton Fire, Webber Fire, Waltonville Fire, Odin Fire, and Wayne City Fire Department.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the blaze. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
