Fairfield was led by Kiersten Vaughan who went 3-4 with a Triple and 3RBI’s; Serenity Dagg – 3-3 with a Double and 3 RBI’s, and Dalanie Ellis – 2-2 with 2 Doubles and 2 RBI’s. Kenry Hutchcraft got the win going 4 innings giving up 2 hits and 1 run with 5 strikeouts.

Kiersten Vaughan got the win with a 3-inning No-Hitter with 3 strikeouts.

Fairfield was led by Jocelyn Lee who went 2-3 with 2 RBI’s and a Stolen Base, Serenity Dagg – 1-2 with 2 RBI’s. Malori Simpson, Alivia Rice, and Kaylee Musgrave also added 1 hit apiece. Alivia Rice got the win, going 5 innings giving up 4 runs on 3 hits with 7 strikeouts.

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL NEWS:
LADY LIONS WITH TWO ALL-STATE 1ST TEAM
In a very rare achievement, the Edwards County Lady Lions basketball team had two of their girls on the same team selected to the IBCA All-State 1st Team in the same season. Grace Bishop and  Lola Nussmeyer both had outstanding seasons and have combined for 3,991 career points.

 

LIONS GIRLS ALL-STAR GAME HELD FRIDAY NIGHT:
The Benton Lions Club again hosted their Annual All-Star Games at Rend Lake College Friday night.
In the Girls Game, the Gold Team beat the Purple Team 87-77.
The Player of the Game Award was given to Lola Nussmeyer of Edwards County.
The 3-point Shooting Contest winner was Kenna Hight from Massac County. Her and Rayci Phelps from Hamilton County each tied with 8 buckets and Hight won the sudden death shoot-off 5-4.

LIONS BOYS ALL-STATE BASKETBALL GAME:
The Benton Lions Club again hosted their Annual All-Star Games at Rend Lake College Friday night.
In the Boys Game, the Purple Team beat the Gold Team 137-134.
The Player of the Game Award was given to Baylor Rolle of Woodlawn.
The 3-point Shooting Contest winner was Zach Green of Goreville. He was tied with TJ Hamilton of Benton with 10 buckets each. Green won the sudden death shoot-off 5-2.
Winner of the dunk contest was Vance Tuck Jr of the Cairo Pilots.

The Chicago Bulls lost a back-and-forth battle against the Memphis Grizzlies 125-124 at FedEx Forum on Saturday. The Bulls gave up a go-ahead three with 15 seconds left in regulation. Matas Buzelis scored 29 points and grabbed ten rebounds, while Collin Sexton finished with 26 points off the bench. Josh Giddey added a triple-double with 18 points, ten assists, and 13 rebounds. The Bulls dropped to 29-and-45. They visit the Spurs tonight.

The St. Louis Cardinals failed to complete a three-game sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays thanks to and 11-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays at Busch Stadium. Jordan Walker, Nolan Gorman, and Pedro Pages all homered in the losing effort, while Dustin May was charged with the loss in his Cardinals debut after surrendering six runs on ten hits in four innings. St. Louis fell to 2-and-1. Kyle Leahy starts for the Cardinals against the Mets tonight.

The 0-and-3 White Sox send Davis Martin to the mound against Miami tonight.

The Chicago Blackhawks surrendered three runs in the third period during a 5-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center. Frank Nazar scored a go-ahead goal with under ten minutes left in regulation before the Devils stormed back. Nazar scored twice in the losing effort, while Ilya Mikheyev also found the back of the net. Chicago is ten points out of a playoff spot with just eight games left. The Hawks host the Jets tomorrow night.

(Undated) — The first half of the Final Four has been set in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. Number one overall seed UConn beat sixth-seeded Notre Dame 70-52 in Fort Worth. In Sacramento, fellow number one seed UCLA advanced past number three seed Duke 70-58 in the other matchup. The action continues Monday, as top-seeded Texas will play number two seed Michigan and number one seeded South Carolina will battle number three seed TCU.

(St. Louis, MO) — The St. Louis Blackhawks picked up a 16-10 win over the DC Defenders in the UFL season opener from The Dome At America’s Center on Saturday. Brandon Silvers tossed a go-ahead ten-yard touchdown to Tyler Neville to put St. Louis up for good in the third quarter. Silvers passed for 198 yards in the victory, while the Hawks defense rattled of seven sacks and two interceptions. St. Louis visits Dallas on April 7th.

(Undated) — Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has no doubt in his mind who this year’s starting quarterback is. Glenn told NFL Network on Sunday that Geno Smith will be the first-string signal caller in 2026. Smith was acquired by New York in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders back in March. The Raiders are still paying over 16-million-dollars of Smith’s salary. The 35-year-old threw a league-high 17 interceptions last season.

(Oklahoma City, OK) — The Oklahoma City Thunder went on a late run to finish off the New York Knicks 111-100 at Paycom Center. The Thunder led by just one in the middle of the fourth quarter before going on a 15-4 run to take control of the contest. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 30 points in the victory, while Jalen Williams chipped in with 22. The Thunder have a two-and-a-half game lead over the Spurs for the top seed in the West. Jalen Brunson poured in a game-high 32 points in the losing effort. New York currently holds the three seed in the Eastern Conference.

(New Orleans, LA) — The Houston Rockets put together a massive second quarter during a 134-102 win over the New Orleans Pelicans at Smoothie King Center. The game was tied through one quarter before Houston went on a 39-18 run the rest of the half. Alperen Sengun [[ al-pah-ron shen-goon ]] led the way with 36 points and 13 rebounds, while Kevin Durant and Jabari Smith Jr. both finished with 20 points. The Rockets currently hold the six-seed in the Western Conference.

(Undated) — St. John’s is committed to its men’s basketball coach. The school confirmed on Sunday that head coach Rick Pitino has signed a new deal that includes an additional year through the 2029-30 season. The deal also includes a significant increase to his salary making him the second-highest paid coach in the Big East behind UConn’s Dan Hurley. The Red Storm were eliminated from the NCAA tournament by Duke in the Sweet 16.

(Houston, TX) — Gary Woodland is celebrating his fifth career Tour victory after winning the Texas Children’s Houston Open by five strokes. Woodland finished atop the leaderboard at 21 under par. Nicolai Hojgaard was second at 16 under. Johnny Keefer and defending champion Min Woo Lee were tied for third at 15 under par. This marks Woodland’s first win since capturing the US Open title in 2019.

(Ridgeway, VA) — Chase Elliott held off Denny Hamlin to take home the checkered flag in the Cook Out 400 from Martinsville Speedway. The driver of the Number-9 car took first place by just over half-a-second. Joey Logano, Ty Gibbs and William Byron rounded out the top-five finishers. The NASCAR Cup Series field heads to Bristol Motor Speedway a week from Sunday for the Food City 500.
