Fairfield Community High School Head Football Coach Justin Townsend received one of the highest honors in Illinois high school athletics this past weekend, as he was inducted into the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association (IHSFCA) Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Champaign.

Townsend’s induction recognizes a career defined by leadership, commitment, and success both on and off the field and was recently honored by his alma mater, McKendree University, with a spot in their Sports Hall of Fame as an NAIA All-American.

As head football coach and athletic director at Fairfield Community High School, Townsend has compiled an impressive record of 150-95. Under his guidance, the Mules have made 18 state playoff appearances, including a remarkable streak of 12 consecutive years. Townsend’s teams have also reached the Sweet 16 five times during his career, and he has led the Mules to the first back-to-back 10-win seasons in school history in 2018 and 2019.

From 2017 through 2020, the Mules achieved four consecutive undefeated regular seasons under Townsend’s direction. Between 2016 and 2021, they posted 37 straight conference wins, solidifying their reputation as one of the top programs in the state.
