A McLeansboro man is in custody at the White County Jail facing serious charges including Child Pornography and two counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse. Authorities say 26-year-old Jamikal Shakespeare of South Washington was arrested late Friday afternoon by McLeansboro Police following a joint investigation with San Juan County Sheriff’s officials.
The case began when McLeansboro Police received information from San Juan County in connection with a criminal investigation involving suspected sexual abuse occurring at multiple locations, some believed to be in McLeansboro. After reviewing the information, local authorities launched their own investigation, which resulted in search and arrest warrants for Shakespeare.
On Monday, Shakespeare appeared in Hamilton County court for a pre-trial detention hearing. The court ruled that he remain detained pending trial.
McLeansboro Police note that the investigation is still in its early stages and additional charges may be filed as more information is collected and reviewed by the Hamilton County State’s Attorney.
