Fairfield Fire Chief Andrew Miller has provided additional information regarding the recent structure fire in Fairfield.

On Thursday at approximately 7:01 a.m., the Fairfield Fire Department, Fairfield Rural Fire Department, Wayne County Ambulance personnel were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 1302 SW 7th Street. While en route, fire department personnel were notified by radio that the structure was fully involved in flames. The first unit arrived on scene just two minutes after dispatch and observed the north half of a single-wide mobile home engulfed in fire. All occupants had safely evacuated the residence prior to the fire department’s arrival.

Firefighters immediately began efforts to suppress the fire and were able to bring it under control within about ten minutes. Overhaul operations were then conducted to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office conducted an investigation. At this time, the cause of the fire remains undetermined, though there is no suspicion of foul play.

There were four people inside the home when the fire was discovered. The trailer is owned by Jason Thomason.
