Number-1 Michigan took down second-seeded UConn 69-63 in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament from Indianapolis. Elliot Cadeau led all scorers with 19 points as the Wolverines claimed their second-ever title since winning it all in 1989. Alex Karaban sunk 17 points for the Huskies, who were playing for their third championship over the past four years and seventh title overall.

The St. Louis Cardinals surrendered six runs in the bottom of the eighth during a 9-6 loss to the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park. The Cardinals led by three entering the frame before Ryne Stanek blew the lead. Matt Svanson was charged with the loss in relief, while Jordan Walker and Ramon Urias both homered in the losing effort. St. Louis dropped to 5-and-5. Matthew Liberatore starts for the Cardinals against the Nationals tonight.

Chicago has dropped back to back games and three of its last four.

Ryan Donato opened the scoring with a goal in the first period before the Sharks scored the next three goals of the contest. Frank Nazar got Chicago within one in the third period, but the Hawks weren’t able to find the equalizer. Chicago is in last place in the Central Division with 70 points. The Blackhawks host the Hurricanes on Thursday.

(Queens, NY) — The Mets will be without their top star for the next week or so. Outfielder Juan Soto was placed on the injured list Monday after suffering a minor right calf strain. He is expected to be sidelined for two to three weeks. In other news, the Mets will retire Carlos Beltran’s number 15 on September 19th. New York begins a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday afternoon.

(Toronto, ON) — The Los Angeles Dodgers dominated the Toronto Blue Jays 14-2 in a World Series rematch at the Rogers Centre. Dalton Rushing led the way at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two homers, three runs scored and two RBIs. Freddie Freeman, Teoscar Hernandez and Shohei Ohtani also homered while starting pitcher Justin Wrobleski earned his first win of the season. The Dodgers have won four in-a-row to sit at 8-and-2. Ernie Clement and Andres Gimenez both drove in a run for Toronto. Starting pitcher Max Scherzer was tagged with the loss as the Blue Jays dropped to 4-and-6.

(Frisco, TX) — The St. Louis Battlehawks will try to stay undefeated when they visit the Dallas Renegades at Toyota Stadium tonight. The Battlehawks opened the season with a 16-10 win over the DC Defenders back on March 28th. Tonight’s game kicks off at 7:00PM.

(Lake Forest, IL) — The Chicago Bears could be getting closer to leaving Illinois. Adam Schefter is reporting that the team is planning to move forward with building a new stadium in Indiana if Illinois doesn’t pass legislation on an Arlington Heights project soon. Schefter also added that the NFL is unlikely to approve a pair of proposed stadium sites in Chicago. At the league meetings last week, Bears president Kevin Warren said that the team will make a decision on its new stadium either in late spring or early summer.

(Undated) — One member of the Giants defense is unhappy with his situation. According to ESPN, defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence the Second has requested a trade. Lawrence is also not participating in the team’s offseason workout program that begins Tuesday. The 28-year-old has two years remaining on his deal and is slated to make 20-million-dollars this season. He is a three-time Pro Bowler with 30 and a half career sacks.

(Undated) — Luka Doncic [[ don-chitch ]] is hoping to return to the court for the Lakers’ postseason run. ESPN reports that Los Angeles’ star guard was in Spain on Monday to receive an injection into his injured hamstring with the hope to promote healing and expedite his return to the court. Doncic decided on the treatment after suffering a Grade Two left hamstring strain in the Lakers’ loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder last Thursday. The 27-year-old is averaging 33.5 points through 64 games played this season.

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Bulls are entering re-building mode. The Bulls fired vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley yesterday. Both men were hired ahead of the 2020-21 season. The Bulls went 224-and-254 during their tenure. ESPN reports that the team would like to hang onto head coach Billy Donovan. In other team news, the Bulls visit the Wizards at 6:00PM tonight.

(Atlanta, GA) — The Hawks are shoring up the paint for the stretch run of the NBA regular season. The team signed Tony Bradley on Monday. The 28-year-old center played almost 40 games for the Pacers this season, but averaged just four points and less than three rebounds. Bradley was originally taken by Utah 28th-overall in the 2017 draft and also suited up for Philly, OKC and Chicago over his eight-year career.

>>Reports: UNC To Hire Former Nuggets Coach Michael Malone

(Chapel Hill, NC) — North Carolina is reportedly hiring Michael Malone to be its next head basketball coach. That’s according to multiple reports. Malone was last the head coach of the Denver Nuggets and won the NBA Championship with them in 2023. He last coached in college in 2001 when he was an assistant at Manhattan. North Carolina fired head coach Hubert Davis after five seasons.

>>Devils Part Ways With GM Tom Fitzgerald

(Newark, NJ) — The Devils made a change to their front office on Monday. Co-owner David Blitzer said in a statement that the team has moved on from general manager Tom Fitzgerald. The Devils hired Fitzgerald as an assistant GM at the start of the 2015-16 season and was named interim GM in January 2020 after Ray Shero was fired. New Jersey is seven points shy of the final East Wild Card spot with five games remaining.

>>Atlanta Dream Acquire Angel Reese From Chicago Sky

(College Park, GA) — The Atlanta Dream are bringing in a two-time WNBA All-Star. The team acquired Angel Reese from the Chicago Sky on Monday in exchange for two first-round picks. The 23-year-old led the league in rebounds for a second straight season after corralling almost 13 per game last year. She also paced the WNBA in double-doubles with 23. Reese was taken seventh-overall in the 2024 draft.
