Dust off your bicycles and get ready to ride safely! Edwards County 4-H, Bone Gap Cardinals 4-H Club, and Love West Salem are teaming up to host Bike Safety Day on Saturday, May 9th from 2 to 4 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 209 W. Church St. in West Salem.
The event will offer free bike inspections, safety lessons, giveaways, and snacks. Youth are encouraged to bring their bikes for a check-up, with repairs provided as needed. Inspections will cover pedals, reflectors, brakes, chains, handlebar grips, and seats. A local police officer will lead a bike safety program to help riders stay safe on the road.
There will be free giveaways, including bike helmets donated by The Hope Center in Albion. All youth up to age 18 are welcome to attend the free event—no 4-H membership required. Registration is encouraged at go.illinois.edu/BikeSafety.
For more information, contact the Edwards County Extension Office at 618-445-2934. Those needing reasonable accommodation are asked to contact Debra Collier at djc@illinois.edu as early as possible.
