Illinois State Police continue to investigate a shooting in Centralia that left one person dead and several others injured Sunday evening.

According to Illinois State Police, the Centralia Police Department responded around 5:01 p.m. to the 900 block of Kell Street for a reported shooting. The department later requested ISP Zone 8 Investigations to take over the case.

Authorities confirm a 19-year-old male was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the Marion County Coroner. Three additional individuals were also taken for treatment and have since been released.

Police say early information indicates the shooting was a targeted incident, and there is no reason to believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.

St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital, located just blocks from the scene, was temporarily placed on lockdown following the incident. Swinford Media Group observed multiple officers securing the hospital entrance Sunday evening, along with a vehicle from the Marion County Coroner’s Office on scene.

Several roadways in the area were closed overnight as investigators processed the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information has been released at this time.
