A Grayville police officer safely disarmed and arrested a wanted fugitive Sunday night without incident.
23 year-old Mcgwire Aschenbrenner of Grayville, is being held in the White County Jail on multiple charges stemming from a gun-related incident last Thursday.
Grayville Police Chief Mason Siegel said officers were initially called to South Street after a resident reported a man acting strangely. An investigation determined the suspect had fired several rounds from a .22 caliber handgun. No injuries were reported.
Due to concerns about his mental state, Aschenbrenner was taken to Deaconess Midtown Hospital, where he was admitted and sedated. Authorities later obtained a warrant for his arrest and notified Indiana officials to detain him upon release.
However, Aschenbrenner reportedly left the hospital against medical advice and returned to Grayville Sunday night. An officer later spotted him and observed him placing a handgun in the back waistband of his pants. The officer was able to approach and disarm Aschenbrenner without further incident.
He is currently in the White County Jail in Carmi on charges including felon in possession of a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, and possession of a firearm without a FOID card. Formal charges are pending in White County Circuit Court.
