The Chicago Cubs are on a three-game losing streak following a 9-7 loss to the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. (Philadelphia, PA) — The Eagles are taking care of two young players on their roster. The team picked up fifth-year options for Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith on Monday. Carter will make about 27-million-dollars while Smith is slated to earn just under 14-million for the 2027 season. The former Georgia teammates each had three sacks last year, with Carter making his second-career Pro Bowl.

(Tampa, FL) — The Buccaneers are making sure a young defensive player sticks around for two more years. The team picked up Calijah Kancey’s fifth-year option on Monday. Kancey had seven-and-a-half sacks in 2024.

(Metairie, LA) — The Saints are not picking up the fifth-year option on their newest trade acquisition. NFL Network reports that New Orleans is declining the fifth-year contract option on defensive end Tyree Wilson’s rookie deal. The Saints acquired Wilson and a seventh-round pick in exchange for a fifth-rounder in this past weekend’s draft. The 25-year-old was the seventh overall pick of the 2023 draft out of Texas Tech. He has 91 tackles, 12 sacks and four forced fumbles in 50 career games.

(Undated) — A former NFL legend is dealing with some health issues. Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor has been hospitalized for a stomach-related issue. According to a representative of his the issue does not appear to be life-threatening. Taylor has been in the hospital for a week with no discharge date determined. He remains under medical observation and is showing signs of improvement.

(Undated) — The NBA playoffs continued Monday with three first-round matchups. The Orlando Magic started off the action with a 94-88 victory over the Detroit Pistons to take a commanding 3-1 series lead over the East’s top-seeded team. The reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder then completed a four-game sweep of the Phoenix Suns with a 131-122 win in the desert. The day was capped off by the Denver Nuggets beating the Minnesota Timberwolves 125-113 to keep their season alive. The action continues Tuesday a trio of Game Five’s. The Boston Celtics host the Philadelphia 76ers, the New York Knicks entertain the Atlanta Hawks, and the San Antonio Spurs play host to the Portland Trail Blazers.

(Undated) — Dallas Mavericks star Cooper Flagg is the NBA’s Rookie of the Year. He beat out former Duke teammate and Charlotte Hornet Kon Knueppel for the award. This marks the first time players from the same college finished first and second in the voting. Flagg finished the season averaging 21 points and more than six rebounds and four assists per game. The forward took 56 of 100 first-place votes from a media panel, with Knueppel getting 44.

(Undated) — One of college football’s top returning players is finding himself in some off-field trouble. Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby is checking into a residential treatment program for a gambling addiction. ESPN reports that Sorsby is under NCAA investigation in the wake of the discovery that he has made thousands of online bets on a variety of sports via a gambling app. Sorsby reportedly bet on Indiana football while redshirting for the Hoosiers as a true freshman in 2022, but no bets were placed in a game in which he appeared.

(Waco, TX) — One of the highest-ranked men’s basketball recruits in the country has decided where he will begin his college playing career. Five-star guard Dylan Mingo announced his commitment to Baylor on Monday. Mingo had previously committed to North Carolina, but reopened his recruitment following the firing of Hubert Davis in Chapel Hill. The high school senior is ESPN’s ninth-ranked recruit in the 2026 cycle and will now join his brother and Penn State transfer Kayden Mingo in Waco.

Phildelphia still leads the series three games to two. Shea Theodore scored in overtime to give the Vegas Golden Knights a 5-4 win over the Utah Mammoth. That series is tied at two games apiece. The action continues with three more games tonight. The Buffalo Sabres will host the Boston Bruins, the Dallas Stars will welcome the Minnesota Wild to the Lone Star State and the Edmonton Oilers will try to keep their season alive against the Anaheim Ducks. Both Buffalo and Anaheim can clinch series victories, while Dallas and Minnesota are tied 2-2 in their series.
