INDIANA MAN JAILED FOLLOWING IDENTITY THEFT INVESTIGATION IN WAYNE COUNTY

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation Wednesday afternoon into a suspected fraudulent purchase and identity theft at LeMond’s Motorsports.

According to authorities, a male subject who initially refused to identify himself was detained just south of the business along U.S. Route 45 after attempting to purchase a motorcycle using fraudulent information.

During the investigation, deputies tracked down the individual whose identity was used on the credit application and confirmed the victim, who resides in Indiana, had their identity stolen. Officials also reported seizing a fraudulent identification card from the suspect.

Using the department’s Livescan system, deputies later identified the suspect as 33-year-old Anthony A. Williams of East Chicago, Indiana.

Williams has been charged with fraud, fraudulent driver’s license or permit, identity theft and unlawful possession of a fraudulent identification card.

He remains lodged in the Wayne County Jail pending a court appearance.
