BULLDOG INVITATIONAL TRACK MEET AT CARMI:
The Fairfield Mules Boys Track team was in action Wednesday at the Bulldog Invitational at Carmi. Fairfield came away with a 2nd overall finish as a team. Notable individual performances for the Mules were: Michael Barner 2nd in the 100m and 3rd in 200m; Justin Johnson 1st in 400m; Kanyen Lingafelter 2nd in 800m; Skylar Bladel 1st in the 800m, Bladel’s time of 2:05.38 set a new meet record; Treyton Lewis 2nd in 1600m; Ashton King 3rd in 1600m and 2nd in 3200m; Aiden King 2nd in Discus; 4x800m Relay team finished 1st; and the 4x400m Relay team finished 1st and set a new meet record.

Alec Burleson hit a two-run home run in the victory, while JJ Wetherholt laced a pair of double. Andre Pallante earned his third win after holding the Pirates to one run on five hits in six innings. The Cardinals improved to 17-and-13. They send Hunter Dobbins to the mound when they go for the sweep over Pittsburgh today.

The Cubs secured a series victory with a 5-4 win over the Padres. Pete Crow-Armstrong went one-for-four with a home run and three RBIs to lead Chicago, while Matt Shaw collected three hits and scored twice. Jameson Taillon [[ TIE-own ]] allowed three runs over seven innings to take home the win and Hoby Milner locked down his first save. The Cubs are now 19-and-12 this season. The Northsiders begin a home series against the Diamondbacks tomorrow.

NFL Network reports that Houston is signing Pro Bowl linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair [[ uh-ZEEZ al-SHY-er ]] to a three-year, 54-million-dollar contract extension. Al-Shaair made his first career Pro Bowl last season after totaling 103 tackles, two interceptions, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery for a stout Houston defense. The 28-year-old former undrafted free agent is entering his third season with the team.

(Undated) — The Giants appear to be adding to their front seven. According to ESPN, Big Blue is expected to sign veteran defensive tackle Shelby Harris to a one-year deal. The move comes after the G-Men shipped star Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals for the 10th overall pick in last week’s draft. Harris joins the Giants after recording 358 tackles and 28.5 sacks in his career for the Raiders, Broncos, Seahawks and Browns.

The award pays tribute to the player deemed the league’s best teammate “based on selfless play, leadership on and off the court as a mentor and role model to other NBA players, and commitment to the team.”

The meeting was described as productive and the three will reportedly reconvene next week to continue discussions.

Baez is on the 10-day IL with an ankle sprain and is hitting .256 with a pair of homers this year.
