Federal safety officials have announced a recall affecting approximately 50,000 dumbbells sold at Walmart.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says the FitRx SmartBell Quick-Select Adjustable Dumbbells, ranging from five to 52.5 pounds, should be immediately replaced. The product was manufactured by Tzumi Electronics, based in New York.
According to the agency, the weight plates can dislodge from the handle during use, creating an impact hazard. Officials say they have received more than 115 reports of the plates coming loose.
At least six injuries have been reported, including broken toes, bruises, contusions and lacerations. Consumers who purchased the dumbbells are urged to stop using them and follow recall instructions to obtain a replacement.
