Hazel Ruth Mitchell, 87, of Fairfield passed away at 12:03PM on Thursday April 30, 2026, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. She was a homemaker and had worked as a hostess at Dimaggio’s for 15 years. Hazel was born in Detroit MI on November 2, 1938, to Noah and Hannah (Lacefield) Duke.
Hazel is survived by daughters- Diana (Noel Jr.) Vaughan and Susan (Greg) Tuggle both of Fairfield; son- Bryan Mitchell of St Charles MO; daughter in law- Rita Mitchell of Flora; grandchildren- Staci McDannel of St Joseph IL, Nikki (Jeremy) Carter of Fairfield, Adam (Melanie) Vaughan of Fairfield, Holli (Heath) Belva of Fairfield, Alyssa (Derek) Raber of Evansville IN, Paige Tuggle of Fairfield, Damon (Hailey) Tuggle of Fairfield, and Brendan (Matti) Mitchell of Albion; 16 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild also survives.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband- Bob Mitchell, son- Lowell Robert “Bobby” Mitchell, and grandsons- Ryan James Vaughan and Scott McDannel.
Graveside services will be held at 2PM on Monday May 4, 2026, at Maple Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation, everyone is asked to go directly to the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the ALS Foundation or to the Wayne County Humane Society.
