LADY MULES INVITATIONAL:
The FCHS Lady Mules Track team hosted the Lady Mules Invitational at the Train Yard Track on Thursday, and it was also Senior Day. Three FCHS Seniors, Jaycie Couch, Ilaria Iommi, and Anjali Oulie were recognized. The Lady Mules finished 2nd overall. Notable individual performances were: Emly Vaughan – 1st in 100m Hurdles and 1st in 300m Hurdles; Jensyn Robbins – 1st in Long Jump; and the 4x200m Relay team finished 1st. Cisne’s Ashtyn Smith finished 3rd in the 200m and 2nd in Triple Jump.

SIJHSAA CLASS S REGIONAL AT CENTRALIA:
On Thursday, the SIJHSAA Class S Regional was held at Centralia. The Jasper Boys Team finished 3rd overall and the New Hope Girls team finished 3rd overall. Local athletes that qualified for the State Track Meet were: Kendall Diesel – Jasper – 800m and 1600m; Keaton Diesel – Jasper – 800m and High Jump; Kallen King – Jasper – 100m, 100m Hurdles, and 400m; Eric Soriano – Jasper – Discus; Jasper Boys 4×400 Relay; Bristol Weber – New Hope – 400m and 800m; Josie Crews – New Hope – Shot Put and Discus; and the Cisne Girls 4x100m Relay team.
SIJHSAA CLASS S REGIONAL AT SUMMERSVILLE:
At the SIJHSAA Class S Regional at Summersville, Wayne City’s Charlotte Chatman qualified for State in the Discus.

The St. Louis Cardinals completed a four-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 10-5 win from PNC Park. St. Louis broke the game open with five runs in the top of the eighth inning. JJ Wetherholt and Jordan Walker both homered in the victory, while Gordon Graceffo picked up the win in relief. The Cardinals improved to 18-and-13. They send Matthew Liberatore to the mound against the Dodgers tonight.

(Undated) — One member of the Giants receiving corps is recovering from an injury. According to NFL Network, wide receiver Darius Slayton had surgery for a core-muscle injury recently. He is expected to be sidelined throughout the team’s offseason program, but is expected to be cleared for training camp. Slayton caught 37 balls for 538 yards and a touchdown in 14 games last season.

(Cincinnati, OH) — The Bengals are waiting on a young player to prove himself. ESPN reports the team declined to pick up the fifth-year option for Myles Murphy. The defensive end racked up five-and-a-half sacks last year and is slated to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason if the team can’t iron out a long term deal. Murphy would have made about 14-and-a-half-million dollars if the option was exercised.

The New York Knicks obliterated the Atlanta Hawks 140-89 on the road to clinch the series in six games. Elsewhere, the Minnesota Timberwolves eliminated the Denver Nuggets with a 110-98 home win in Game Six. In other action, the Philadelphia 76ers forced a Game Seven against the Boston Celtics with a 106-93 win at home. The playoffs continue Friday with a trio of Game Sixes. Dyson Daniels, Draymond Green, Cedric Coward and Josh Hart rounded out the remainder of the top five.

(Milwaukee, WI) — The Bucks hired former Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins as their head coach on Thursday. Jenkins spent nearly six seasons in Memphis, leading the team to a 250-and-214 record and three playoff appearances. He was fired late in the 2024-25 season with the team in playoff position. Jenkins replaces Hall of Famer Doc Rivers, who went 97-and-103 in his two-plus seasons on the job.
