YOUNG TALENTS ART SHOW HIGHLIGHTS AREA STUDENT ARTISTS IN WAYNE COUNTY

The first Young Talents Art Show, hosted by the Wayne County Arts Alliance, was held Saturday at Bob Boyles Hall, showcasing artwork from high school and college-age students across the region.
Organizers said those in attendance were impressed by the quality and creativity displayed by the young artists. FNB of Fairfield served as the corporate sponsor, while several additional donors contributed to prize funding.

The “Best of Show” award went to Caroline Simmons of Carmi-White County High School for her framed colored pencil drawing, Jake and Murray: On Point at Sunrise. She received a $200 prize sponsored by Wabash Communications.

Awards of Excellence, each valued at $100, were presented to:

Jayci Spencer of Carmi-White County High School for Boots and Roots, sponsored by Country Financial agent Alex Atwood of Cisne.

Gideon Gifford of Decatur for Calling of the Dove, sponsored by Dr. Pat and Jessica Molt.

Addy Kiktavy of Fairfield Community High School for Cat Made From Cats, sponsored by Dr. Steve and Connie Mitchell.

Audrey Greatline of Edwards County High School for her photograph Evening Ardour, sponsored by Joe’s Body Shop.

Three $50 Honorable Mention awards were also presented:

Rebar Deer Head by Brody Hutchcraft of Cisne High School

John, an etching by Mackenzie Hoover of Troy

Grotto by Gideon Gifford of Decatur

Many students and family members attended the 4 p.m. awards ceremony. BAKED provided refreshments for the event.

Organizers expressed appreciation to all contributors, attendees, and judges, including Tammy Lee, Janet Kent, and Kaci Moats. The exhibit was chaired by David Harl, with assistance from Donna Savage, and supported by members of the Arts Alliance.

Arts Alliance President Vicki Gifford said she was pleased with the strong community involvement and support for the inaugural event, which celebrated the artistic talents of area students.
