Local anglers and community members are gearing up to make a difference at the annual “Fishing for a Cure” tournament, set for May 9th at Sam Dale Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area in Johnsonville.

The non-sanctioned event invites participants to “Cast a Line for a Cause!” from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., with registration beginning bright and early at 5 a.m. Entry is by freewill donation, with a suggested contribution of $25 per person.

All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association and Susan G. Komen, supporting efforts to fight Alzheimer’s disease and breast cancer.

Prizes will be awarded in several categories, including the Mystery Weight, the Angler’s Award for the largest bass caught, and the Master Angler for the most total weight. Organizers are encouraging all skill levels to join in for a day of fishing, fun, and fundraising.

The event is sponsored by Brookstone Estates of Fairfield, with additional support from Country Financial and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. For more information, interested participants can contact Brookstone Estates at 618-842-5875.
