HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS TRACK:
The Fairfield Lady Mules Track team traveled to Carmi Wednesday for the Black Diamond Conference Championship Meet and came away as Conference Champions for the 5th straight year. Individual Conference Champions for the Lady Mules were: Wren Braddock in 100m; Emeri Sager in 800m and 1600m; Jaycie Couch in 3200m; Emily Vaughan in 110m Hurdles, 300m Hurdles, and Long Jump; Mahogany Langford in Shot Put; and Jensyn Robbins in Triple Jump. The 4x100m Relay Team and 4x200m Relay Team also finished as Conference Champions.

The Chicago White Sox surrendered five runs in the bottom of the second during an 8-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim yesterday. Noah Schultz was charged with his second loss after allowing seven runs on seven hits in three-and-two-thirds innings. The Southsiders dropped to 17-and-20. They host the Mariners tomorrow night.

The St. Louis Cardinals allowed four runs in the top of the first during a 6-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers at Busch Stadium yesterday. Andre Pallante was charged with his third loss after surrendering five runs on eight hits in six innings, while Alec Burleson and Jose Fermin each had an RBI. The Cardinals have dropped two of three. St. Louis is in second place in the NL Central at 21-and-15. Matthew Liberatore starts for St. Louis tonight against San Diego.   First pitch is at 9:10PM.

Chicago Cubs 7, Cincinnati Reds 6 (F/10)
The Cubs have a flair for the dramatic. The team secured its third consecutive walk-off win in their series against the Reds after Michael Busch walked with the bases loaded in the 10th inning to secure a 7-6 victory from Wrigley. Pete Crow-Armstrong tied things up with a two-run homer in the ninth as Chicago has won eight straight. The Northsiders are in first place in the NL Central at 25-and-12. Shota Imanaga starts for the Cubs against the Reds this afternoon. The Chicago Cubs are down another starting pitcher. The team placed left-hander Matthew Boyd on the 15-day injured list yesterday. Boyd needs surgery after injuring his knee while playing with his kids yesterday. Chicago hasn’t announced a time-table for Boyd’s return. The 35-year-old is 2-and-1 with a 6.00 ERA in five starts this season.

(Undated) — Conference semifinal action continued in the NBA playoffs on Wednesday. The Knicks held off the Joel Embiid-less 76ers 108-102 from MSG to claim a 2-0 series lead in the East. Out West, the Spurs thumped the Timberwolves 133-95 from San Antonio behind Stephon Castle’s 21 points to knot up their best-of-seven series at one game apiece. Another set of Game Two’s tip off on Thursday. The Cavaliers will try to even their East series at one game apiece at the Pistons while the Lakers hope to do the same out West against the Thunder from Oklahoma City.

(Undated) — The NBA’s leading scorer this season is unsure if he will be able to return to the court this season. Los Angeles Lakers superstar guard Luka Doncic [[ don-chitch ]] told reporters that he does not know when he will be able to return from the Grade Two hamstring strain that has sidelined him since April 2nd. Doncic called watching his team play in the postseason without him frustrating and also noted that the doctor told him at the time of his injury that his recovery would take eight weeks. The team’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday will mark five weeks to the day since the injury.

(Undated) — The Patriots’ starting quarterback is standing with his head coach. Drake Maye said Wednesday at the Truist Championship Pro-Am in Charlotte that Mike Vrabel is a “great human being,” and does not believe his off-field issues will be a distraction for the team this season. Vrabel has been at the center of a controversy involving him and NFL reporter Dianna Russini. The two are alleged to be involved in an extramarital relationship going back at least six years.

(Undated) — A former Super Bowl champion has a decision to make. Free agent quarterback Russell Wilson said Wednesday that he has been offered a contract by the New York Jets to be the backup to Geno Smith. Wilson also mentioned that he is contemplating a post-football career in network television and has yet to decide which direction he will take. The 37-year-old said he can still “play ball at a high level,” but is still trying to figure out what’s best for him to do.

(Undated) — The Stanley Cup Playoffs continued with a pair of games on Wednesday. The Buffalo Sabres beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-2 in game one of their second round series. Out west, the Anaheim Ducks evened their series against the Vegas Golden Knights with a 3-1 road victory. Thursday, the Flyers will host the Hurricanes in game three of their series. Carolina leads Philadelphia two games to none.

(Undated) — Tigers pitcher Framber Valdez was suspended five games by Major League Baseball for intentionally throwing at Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story on Tuesday. Valdez allowed 10 runs in three-plus innings, including back-to-back home runs immediately before the incident. He is 2-and-2 with a 4.57 ERA this season. Manager AJ Hinch was handed a one-game suspension, which he served on Wednesday.

>>Astros’ Correa To Have Season-Ending Ankle Surgery

(Undated) — The Astros will be without a key member of their infield for the rest of the season. Houston shortstop Carlos Correa is set to undergo season-ending surgery after suffering a torn tendon in his left ankle. Correa told reporters that he sustained a complete tear while taking swings in the batting cage prior to the team’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday. The 31-year-old estimated that the recovery process will take six to eight months. He finishes the year batting .279 with three homers, 22 runs scored and 16 RBIs through 32 games played.

(Undated) — The NCAA basketball tournaments are reportedly in the final stages of expanding. According to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, NCAA committee calls on Thursday are the final steps that need to be cleared for the fields of both tournaments to expand from 68 to 76 teams beginning this fall. Games are expected to begin Tuesday with 12 preliminary round games at neutral sites before the traditional first weekend of games.

(Charlotte, NC) — Sepp Straka will be looking to defend his title at the Truist Championship from Quail Hollow Club. Straka won last year’s tournament by two strokes after finishing atop the leaderboard at 16 under par. The 33-year-old will be alongside Hideki Matsuyama and Jordan Spieth for the first and second rounds. Taylor Pendrith, Mackenzie Hughes and Alex Smalley will be among the first group of players teeing off round one.
