The City of Fairfield Water Distribution Department has announced that it will be flushing water hydrants throughout the city from May 11th to May 15th. This annual process is an important part of maintaining the city’s water lines and ensuring high water quality for all residents.
During this period, Water Department employees will be opening hydrants across various city locations. Residents may notice that their water appears cloudy or discolored while the hydrants are being flushed. City officials assure citizens that this is a temporary condition and the water remains safe to use. The cloudiness is due to mineral deposits being stirred up during the flushing process, which can be remedied by running cold water in your home until it clears. However, residents are advised to check their water before doing laundry or using it in sensitive appliances. The hydrant flushing will take place during the hours of 7 AM to 4 PM on weekdays. For residents’ safety, the city asks that people avoid areas where hydrant flushing is in progress. The flushing schedule is as follows:
Monday: 1st Ward (north of Main Street)
Tuesday: 2nd Ward (every hydrant north of Main Street, plus hydrants on 1st and 7th Streets)
Wednesday: 3rd Ward (every hydrant south of Main Street)
Thursday: 4th Ward (every hydrant west of 1st Street, including Walmart, Porter/Industrial Park, Kincaid’s, Hwy 45 South, and Hwy 15 East to the City’s Filter Plant)
Residents with questions or concerns can contact the Water Department at 842-7015 or 842-5016.
