73 year old Fairfield resident, James “Allen” Schnell passed away at his residence on Monday, May 4, 2026.
Allen was born on March 25, 1953 in Flora, Illinois to Donald and Shirley (Badger) Schnell. Allen married Dora Moats on May 3, 1980 in Mt. Erie, Illinois. She preceded him in death on September 25, 2024.
Allen loved plants and loved gardening. Throughout the years he owned Al’s Plants and Flowers, Al’s foods, and was Co-owner of Dora’s buffet in Fairfield Illinois, as well as County Line Greenhouse in Noble, Illinois. He was a faithful member of Kings Chapel Church in Fairfield.
Allen is survived by 2 brothers; Curtis (Gloria) Schnell and Marion (Donna) Schnell, both of Olney, IL. 1 aunt; Phyllis Umfleet of Olney, IL. His niece, Larissa (David) Branstetter and their two children, and several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two brothers Joe and Wayne Schnell.
Funeral services for James “Allen” Schnell will be held 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial in McKendree Cemetery, south of Mt. Erie. Visitation will be Wednesday morning, 10:00 a.m. to service time.
In honor of Allen, the family requests that you wear your favorite flannel shirt and jeans.
