WAYNE COUNTY CIRCUIT COURT HANDS DOWN SENTENCES, DISMISSES CHARGES, AND ACCEPTS GUILTY PLEAS

The Wayne County Circuit Court was busy Thursday as four individuals received sentences.

Brandon Lee Thomas, 27, of Geff, admitted to violating his probation. Thomas had originally been charged in 2024 with home invasion, a Class X felony, along with misdemeanor counts of battery and theft under $500. The felony charge was dismissed, and he was convicted of the misdemeanors in January 2025. After a petition to revoke his probation was filed in November 2025, Thomas appeared in court Thursday and was sentenced to 60 days in jail, with 30 days ordered to be actually served.

Cody Cropper of Barnhill was resentenced in connection with a 2021 methamphetamine possession case after admitting to a probation violation. Cropper, originally convicted in March 2024 and placed on two years of probation, had a petition to revoke filed in September 2025. He was resentenced Thursday to one year of conditional discharge, with a 180-day jail sentence stayed—meaning it will only be imposed if he violates the new probation terms.

Cody Yard, 33, of West Frankfort, pled guilty to Home Repair Fraud. He was placed on one year of court supervision, ordered to pay $3,694.68 in restitution to the victim, and given credit for six days served in the Wayne County Jail. Two additional counts were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Yelitmar Jimenez Romero of Fairfield pled guilty to Retail Theft. Romero was placed on 12 months of court supervision, ordered to pay court costs, and must pay $98.44 in restitution to Walmart.
