Wayne R. Smith, 99, of Geff passed away at 4:50AM, Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. Born on January 29, 1927, in Wayne County to Rude Estil and Nellie Mae (Longbons) Smith. He was a farmer and a Veteran of the US Navy.
Wayne is survived by sons- Richard and Danny Smith both of Fairfield; daughters- Tanya (Brad) Basnett of Fairfield; five grandchildren- Heath Basnett, Kyle Basnett, Jenny McArthy, Tim Smith, and Katie Schaber, eleven great grandchildren, one step great grandchild, and one great great grandson.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, wife- Lelia Smith, brothers- Lewis Smith, and daughter in law- Vicky Smith.
Funeral services for Wayne Smith will be held at 1PM, Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday at 11AM until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Wayne’s honor may be made to the Geff Christian Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
