Communities across the country are recognizing National Police Week during the month of May, honoring the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of law enforcement officers.
Originally established by presidential proclamation from John F. Kennedy in 1962, National Police Week includes Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15 and commemorates officers who lost their lives in the line of duty while also recognizing those who continue serving their communities.
Patrick Windhorst said law enforcement officers play a vital role in protecting communities and maintaining public safety.
National Police Week serves as both a time of remembrance for fallen officers and a recognition of the service and sacrifices made daily by law enforcement personnel and their families.
