Alex Bregman homered in the losing effort, while Colin Rea was charged with his second loss after surrendering five runs on seven hits in four-and-a-third frames. The Cubs remain in first place in the NL Central at 27-and-15. Shota Imanaga starts for Chicago against Atlanta tonight.

(Undated) — The NFL is revealing the opponents for its Madrid game this upcoming season. The Bengals will battle the Falcons in Week Nine from the Bernabeu Stadium. Atlanta was previously announced as the designated home team for the contest while Cincy is playing overseas for the first time since 2019. The Madrid matchup is one of nine international games on the slate for the 2026 schedule, which will be fully released on Thursday.

(Undated) — The San Antonio Spurs are now one win away from their first trip to the Western Conference Finals since 2017. Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs cruised to a 126-97 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game Five in San Antonio. The star big man finished the contest with 27 points, 17 rebounds and three blocks to help the Spurs take a 3-2 series lead heading back to Minneapolis. Playoff action continues today with the Detroit Pistons playing host to the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game Five. The best-of-seven series is currently tied 2-2.

>>Memphis Grizzlies’ Forward Brandon Clarke Dies in San Fernando Valley Home

(Los Angeles, CA) — Authorities in Los Angeles are investigating the death of Memphis Grizzlies’ forward Brandon Clarke. The 29-year-old was found dead in his San Fernando Valley home shortly after five o’clock Monday afternoon. KNBC-TV reports drug paraphernalia was found in the home, and the incident is being investigated as a possible overdose. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death. Clarke was a seven-year NBA veteran. He was recently arrested in Arkansas on suspicion of speeding and possession of a controlled substance.

(Undated) — Former NBA player Jason Collins has died at age 47 after battling brain cancer. Collins’ family announced Tuesday that he died peacefully at home surrounded by relatives after recently suffering a recurrence of stage-four glioblastoma. Collins became the first openly gay athlete to play in one of North America’s four major professional sports leagues after coming out in a 2013 Sports Illustrated story. The former center retired in 2014 following a 13-year NBA career, including eight years with the then-New Jersey Nets.

(Sacramento, CA) — The Athletics will be without their All-Star shortstop for the foreseeable future. The A’s have placed Jacob Wilson on the 10-day injured list because of a dislocated left shoulder. Wilson was injured during the fifth inning of the team’s loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday after diving for an infield single. The 24-year-old is batting .292 with three home runs and 19 RBIs in 39 games played this season. In other moves, the team has selected the contracts of Henry Bolte and infielder Michael Stefanic from Triple-A Las Vegas, optioned infielder Brett Harris to the Aviators, designated right-hander Eduarniel Nunez for assignment, and released catcher Austin Wynns after he cleared waivers.

(Undated) — The Stanley Cup Playoffs continued with a pair of games on Tuesday. The Buffalo Sabres beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 to even their series at two games apiece. Pavel Dorofeyev scored in overtime to give the Vegas Golden Knights a 3-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks to secure a three games to two lead in the series. Wednesday, the Colorado Avalanche can clinch a trip to the Western Conference Finals with a win in game five of their series against the Minnesota Wild.

>>Bruins Defenseman Charlie McAvoy Suspended Six Games

(Undated) — The NHL has dished out punishment to a member of the Boston Bruins. Defenseman Charlie McAvoy was assessed a six-game suspension by the NHL Department of Player Safety for slashing Buffalo Sabres forward Zach Benson in Game Six of their first round series. The announcement comes one day after McAvoy had an in-person hearing at the league offices in New York City. He will serve the suspension at the start of the 2026-27 regular season.

(Columbus, OH) — The Blue Jackets are locking-down one of their veteran forwards. The team signed Charlie Coyle on Tuesday to a six-year deal worth 36-million dollars. The 34-year-old center tallied 20 goals and ended with 58 points over all 82 games of the regular season. Coyle joined Columbus last offseason and has almost 550 points in his 14-year career with the Wild, Bruins, Avalanche and Jackets.

>>Penguins Want Evgeni Malkin Back Next Year

(Pittsburgh, PA) — The Penguins are trying to keep one of their franchise pillars. General manager Kyle Dubas told the media on Tuesday they would “love” to have Evgeni Malkin back next season. The 39-year-old center scored 19 goals and finished with 61 points in 56 regular season games this year. Malkin is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent and reiterated his desire to play in the NHL after Pittsburgh got eliminated by Philadelphia in the playoffs.
