The Wayne County Soil and Water Conservation District recently recognized local students through scholarships and conservation education programs.
This year’s $500 scholarship recipients were Addilyn Lafikes of Fairfield, Ava Greifzu of Cisne, and Alayna Marie White of Wayne City.
The district also continued its annual Arbor Day coloring contest for third grade students throughout the county. Classroom winners received cash prizes and books about trees, while every third grade student received a spruce tree as part of the conservation program.
Officials said 187 spruce trees were distributed this spring to students across Wayne County, including children at Kiddie Kollege in Fairfield.
The district thanked local schools, teachers, and community supporters for helping promote conservation education and environmental awareness among area students.
