He matched Tristan Peters with a team-high three RBIs as Chicago has won seven of its last eight games. The Southsiders are in second place in the AL Central and 24-and-22, and they visit the Mariners tonight. Michael Conforto tied the score with a three-run homer in the ninth inning for the Cubbies, who have dropped six-of-eight to fall to 29-and-18. They host Milwaukee this evening.

(St. Louis, MO) — The St. Louis Battlehawks had their three-game winning streak snapped with a 23-16 loss to the Houston Gamblers at The Dome at America’s Center on Saturday. Luis Perez passed for 308 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in the losing effort, while Steve McBride finished with eight catches for 116 yards. The Battlehawks are tied for second place in the UFL at 5-and-3. They visit Houston this Sunday.

The deal includes a base salary around 22-million dollars. The 42-year-old ranked near the bottom of the league in quarterback rating last year and strung the team along past several deadlines while making his final decision.

The Cavs toppled the top-seeded Detroit Pistons 125-94 in Game Seven at Little Caesars Arena. Cleveland will now travel to take on the New York Knicks in Game One on Tuesday. In today’s action, the back-to-back NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder play host to Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in Game One of the Western Conference Finals.

(Champaign, IL) — The University of Illinois and men’s basketball coach Brad Underwood are agreeing to new terms on his existing six-year contract. Athletic Director Josh Whitman announced that Underwood’s contract, which runs through 2032, could now extend through 2036. The agreement would also include updated financial terms that would solidify Underwood among the highest paid coaches in college basketball. The deal still needs to be approved by the Illinois Board of Trustees next week. Underwood is coming off his best season as head coach of the Fighting Illini, leading the team to its first Final Four appearance since 2005.

(Champaign, IL) — Illinois men’s basketball is set to play against Duke the next two seasons. The Fighting Illini will travel to Durham to face the Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor Stadium on November 17th. Illinois will then host Duke during the 2027-28 season on December 4th, 2027 at the State Farm Center. It will mark Duke’s first-ever visit to Champaign. The Blue Devils are coached by Chicago-area native Jon Scheyer.

(Oklahoma City, OK) — Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has repeated as the NBA Most Valuable Player. Gilgeous-Alexander is now only the 14th player in league history to win the MVP award in back to back years. The last player to accomplish that feat was Nuggets star Nikola Jokic in 2021 and 2022. Other players to win the award in back to back years include Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Tim Duncan.

(Undated) — The second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs comes to a close tonight. The Buffalo Sabres will host the Montreal Canadiens in game seven of their Eastern Conference semifinal matchup. The winner will face off with the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Final starting Thursday. Out west, the Colorado Avalanche will host the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference Final. The series will begin on Wednesday in Denver.

(Houston, TX) — The Astros will be without their star second baseman for the foreseeable future. Houston is placing Jose Altuve on the injured list due to a Grade Two left oblique strain. Altuve sat out Sunday after undergoing an MRI following an awkward swing in Saturday’s win over the Rangers. Rookie Brice Matthews started at second base Sunday. The 36-year-old Altuve is batting .245 with four homers and 12 RBIs in 42 games this season.

(Undated) — The Rangers were without their All-Star shortstop this past weekend. Corey Seager sat out Saturday and Sunday’s games because of back spasms. Texas manager Skip Schumaker said Seager underwent an MRI yesterday to determine if it was only back spasms that were causing the problem. He will not travel with the team to Denver and will instead return to Arlington to undergo further testing. The 32-year-old is currently in the midst of a career-worst 0-for-27 slump.

(Newtown, PA) — Aaron Rai is celebrating his first major win after finishing atop the leaderboard at the PGA Championship from Aronimink Golf Club. Rai won the tournament by three strokes after shooting nine under par. Jon Rahm and Alex Smalley finished tied for second at six under. Justin Thomas, Matti Schmid and Ludvig Aberg were tied for fourth at five under par. Defending champion Scottie Scheffler finished tied for 14th at two under.

(Dover, DE) — Denny Hamlin is one-million dollars richer after taking home the checkered flag in the NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race from Dover Motor Speedway. The driver of the Number-11 car outlasted Chase Briscoe for the ultimate prize. Erik Jones, Austin Dillon and Connor Zilisch rounded out the top-five finishers. The field gets back to regular season action when the racers clash in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway next Sunday.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Chicago Sky got back in the win column with a 86-79 victory over the Minnesota Lynx at the Target Center. Gabriela Jaquez led the way with 20 points, while Kamilla Cardoso finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds. The Sky improved to 3-and-1. They host the Dallas Wings on Wednesday night.
