More than 12 million Illinois residents are now connected to assistance for housing, food, healthcare, and other basic needs through 211 Illinois, following the completion of statewide coverage.
Officials have announced that every Illinois resident can now dial 211 to access local services offering help with essential needs, including housing assistance, food programs, healthcare access, and mental health support.
“Statewide 211 coverage is a major milestone for 211 Illinois,” said Board Chair David Wortman.
The nonprofit organization emphasized that the three-digit number serves as a free, confidential, 24-hour-a-day resource for individuals unsure where to seek help. Call specialists assist residents in locating local programs, determining eligibility for services, and providing referrals.
Available assistance includes support with rent and utility payments, locating food pantries and nutrition programs, finding medical clinics, and connecting individuals with counseling, crisis intervention, and caregiver support services.
According to 211 Illinois, the statewide directory now includes more than 35,000 verified resources.
Residents can access the service by calling 211, texting their ZIP code to 898211, or visiting 211Illinois.org and selecting “Search for Help.”
