Fairfield is celebrating a rare feat this postseason as two brothers from the Taylor family are set to appear in their respective College Baseball “World Series” tournaments—each taking a different path to the national spotlight.
Cayden Taylor is making his debut at the NJCAA World Series, not as a player, but as a coach. In his first season on the staff at Wabash Valley College, the Fairfield native serves as the Warriors’ pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. Taylor joined Wabash Valley following a stint as pitching coach at Western Texas College in 2025. Prior to that, he spent a season guiding the Blue Knights’ pitchers at Olney Central College, helping lead them to postseason play.
Throughout his coaching career, Taylor has built a reputation for developing pitchers, with an impressive 85 percent of his athletes reportedly moving on to four-year programs. As a player, Taylor excelled at Muskegon Community College—earning all-conference honors and setting school records in WHIP, complete games, and innings pitched—before finishing his collegiate career at Thomas University.
Meanwhile, his younger brother, McGwire Taylor, is headed to the NAIA World Series as a standout pitcher for Tennessee Wesleyan University. The 6-foot, 190-pound left-handed senior—who previously pitched for Wabash Valley—turned in an outstanding season for the Bulldogs, finishing with a 9-2 record in 15 starts. Over 81.2 innings, he allowed 73 hits and 34 earned runs for a 3.31 ERA, striking out 85 while walking just 17.
McGwire Taylor’s biggest moment came in the decisive game against Webber International University, where he pitched seven strong innings, allowing just three hits and striking out six to secure a 3-1 victory and send Tennessee Wesleyan to the NAIA World Series.
With one brother making an impact from the dugout and the other excelling on the mound, the Taylors have put their hometown in the national baseball spotlight this spring.
