The Hamilton County Board convened this month with a full agenda, beginning with a liquor control session where three Class C liquor licenses were approved for local businesses. Licenses were issued to The Liquor Hut (Reegan and Holly Schuster), Rube’s Liquor Locker (Ryan Rubenacker), and Hunts Gas N Go (Asif Hemdani), each set to expire in November 2026. Each business paid a $1,750 licensing fee to the county. Following the liquor session, the board transitioned to its regular monthly meeting. Board member Landon Vaughan updated members on the courthouse second-floor bathroom project, noting that permit release is expected soon, with bids due by June 4. Increased interest was reported, with three potential bidders showing interest. The board approved two key measures: a proposal by Supervisor of Assessments Clint Hopfinger for new GIS aerial drone imagery to support county mapping and assessment, and the acceptance of the Fiscal Year 2025 Workers’ Compensation audit and claim totaling $4,442. A resolution on juror pay was tabled for further review, as was discussion of potential uses for the former Highway Department office, which has been vacant since January. Suggestions included housing Pre-Trial Services or relocating EMA operations. Board Chairman Kelly Woodrow will consult with Tracy Lakin on the matter, while State’s Attorney Sarah Mead noted Pre-Trial Services could benefit from the location. On highway matters, the board approved all three recommended projects: Illini Asphalt will complete work on Edgar’s Road and Rural Hills Road, and ET Simonds was selected for HMA resurfacing on Dale Road. The board also approved financial responsibility for the Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant program. Bellwether representative Dustin Harmon informed the board that a special meeting must be held before June 1 to approve a new Solar and Wind Ordinance. A public hearing is scheduled for May 27 at 6 p.m., ahead of the required special meeting.
