Thursday morning just before 6:30, the Fairfield Fire Department responded to a trailer fire at 27 Ash Street in Fairfield. The first fire engine arrived at the scene just three minutes after dispatch and found smoke coming from the roof line of a single-wide trailer occupied by Samantha Swafford.
Swafford, who was inside the residence when the fire broke out, awoke to smoke and managed to safely evacuate. She then went to a nearby residence to call 911.
Firefighters entered the home and located the source of the fire in the bathroom. The blaze was quickly brought under control. Firefighters remained on the scene for just over an hour. No injuries were reported.
According to officials, the cause of the fire appears to be accidental, stemming from an unattended lit candle.
The Fairfield Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Fairfield Rural Fire Department, Wayne County Ambulance, Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Fairfield Police Department, and Wayne County 911.
